Ingredients Needed

One of the best things about this delicious homemade chips recipe is that you only need a few simple ingredients to help you make them. You may not even need to make a trip to the grocery store.

  • pita bread – A variety of bread will work, store-purchased, homemade pita, flatbread or naan.
  • extra virgin olive oil – for pita chips without any oil, you can air fry them plain. However, the seasoning will be difficult to stick to the bread.
  • Seasoning of your choice – get creative with your favorite spice mix. Some of my favorite spices are kosher salt, garlic powder, or za’atar spice.

Step 3: Season the pita chips

If adding seasoning, place the cut pita in a mixing bowl, add the seasoning, and gently fold in the spices.

Step 4: Air fry the chips

Place the pita on the bottom of the air fryer basket in a single layer. Some overlap is ok. Turn the heat to 375°F – 380°F and air fry for 5-10 minutes or until crispy. The time will vary depending on your air fryer and the thickness of the pita bread used. Remove the chips from the basket to cool. Repeat until all the pita is air-fried.

Bake In The Oven

If you don’t have an air fryer, no problem! You can also bake pita chips in the oven. Follow steps 1-3 above, then place your cut pita on a baking sheet in a single layer at 425°F for 4-9 minutes depending on the thickness of the pita.

Do You Have To Split The Pita?

If you are using pita pockets, you do not need to split the pockets before cutting them into triangles. However, if you prefer thin pita chips, then split the pita. In this case, I recommend adding oil to one side of the pita, not both. Be sure to watch the time when cooking. They will be crispy in 5 minutes.

What To Serve With This Dish

Serve these easy homemade pita chips with your favorite dips. Some of my favorite dips to pair with these chips are Homemade Hummus, Bacon Cheddar Ranch Dip, or even this Chunky Avocado Dip. No matter what you choose to serve with this delicious recipe you will fall in love with how easy it is.

Next time you make these crunchy air fryer pita chips, make them sweet and try serving them with this Cherry Chocolate Chip Dip or Chocolate Cherry Yogurt Dip.
