Making this White Chocolate Popcorn recipe is so simple even if you make fresh popcorn on the stovetop.

Just follow the directions below and you will have sweet and minty popcorn that is perfect for the holidays in no time at all.

STOVETOP POPCORN INSTRUCTIONS

If you are not using pre-popped popcorn or making batches in an air fryer, here is how to make fresh popcorn on the stovetop. You will need to make two and a half batches (1 1/2 cup total popcorn kernels) for this recipe.

I follow Orville Redenbacher’s cooking method, cooking in 1/2 cup batches, but first I make sure to coat the popcorn in oil like I show you in this air fryer popcorn post.

  1. In a small mixing bowl add 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels.
  2. Add 3 tablespoon of vegetable oil to the kernels and stir to coat each kernel.
  3. Place coated popcorn in a single layer in a large heavy pot.
  4. Place on the stovetop and turn heat to medium with the lid on the pot, slightly ajar.
  5. Shake the pot when the popcorn begins to pop. Once popcorn stops popping remove from heat.

STEP 1: LINE A RIMMED BAKING SHEET WITH PARCHMENT PAPER

STEP 2: ADD THE POPPED POPCORN TO THE LARGE BOWL

Place fresh popcorn into a large mixing bowl.

STEP 3: MELT THE CHOCOLATE OR CANDY MELTS IN THE MICROWAVE

In a separate small bowl, add the white chocolate or candy melts with the coconut oil or vegetable shortening. Microwave on high for 30 seconds and stir vigorously to allow the candy to continue melting in the residual heat. If needed, heat again in 15-second increments until completely melted, stirring well between each cycle.

STEP 4: POUR THE CHOCOLATE OVER THE POPCORN AND MIX

SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS

Here are a few ways that you can up this easy white chocolate popcorn recipe to make it your own.

  • If you don’t have peppermints on hand, you can use peppermint bark, or even crushed candy canes for the candy.
  • Instead of white chocolate, you can also use dark chocolate or milk chocolate to make this popcorn.
  • You could also add in some chopped nuts, like pecans or walnuts, for a little extra crunch.
  • If you can’t find melting candy, you can also use almond bark for this recipe.
  • You could also add a handful of mini marshmallows for an extra touch of sweetness to this easy treat.
  • Don’t forget to remove any unpopped kernels from your popcorn so that you don’t bite into a hard kernel.

HOW TO STORE

Once the popcorn has dried completely, you can store it in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.

If you live in a humid climate, it’s best to store the popcorn in the fridge or freezer to prevent the chocolate from getting too soft.
