SUBSTITUTIONS & ADDITIONS

  • You could add a drop or two of red food coloring to get that classic candy cane color.
  • If you’re not into chocolate chips, you could use white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, or even dark chocolate chips to these cookies.
  • To these cookies to another level by dipping one side of the cookie into melted chocolate for added chocolate taste.
  • Out of peppermint extract? Vanilla extract can work in a pinch but will reduce some of the peppermint flavors.
  • Instead of candy canes add crushed Andes mints to your cookies for a delicious chocolate and mint combination.

HOW TO STORE

If you have any cookies left, store them in an airtight container at room temperature. They’ll keep for about 5 days.

You can also freeze these cookies in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. Just know that they will lose their crisp edges and become chewier once you thaw them out.
