Ranch Dressing Mix
Every home cook needs this Ranch Dressing Mix recipe. A classic salad dressing, dip addition, or even coating for chicken, this is a homemade blend that is healthier and cheaper than packets in the store.
Ranch Dressing Mix
If you look in my pantry, you will always see a bottle of this ranch dressing mix.
It’s not something I am ever without. Why? Because it is a great addition to so many of my favorite recipes.
Simple but delicious flavor makes many of my favorite meals easier to manage.
What is Ranch Dressing Made Of?
Most ranch flavored dressing or seasoning packets include a combination of powdered milk, black pepper, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, and a few other spices to create a unique but classic flavor.
This is mixed together with mayonnaise and milk or buttermilk to create a salad dressing, or with sour cream to create a dip.
Is This Better Than a Ranch Seasoning Packet?
Yes! I think that the homemade packet is much better. Why? Because it has less salt, so it is healthier.
It’s also a better flavor since I can control how much of each spice is included.
Personally, I like to add more dill than others to the mixture. So, it has a better flavor, in my opinion, than purchased mixes.
Another benefit of the homemade mixture is there are fewer preservatives so I don’t find it has a bad aftertaste like the packet can often leave.
How Much Is In A Ranch Dressing Packet?
A once ounce ranch packet is about 2 tablespoons of this mixture.
How to Use Ranch Dressing Mix
Ranch dressing mix is classically used in a salad dressing or as a dip for chips and vegetables.
Below are some of my favorite ways to use my homemade ranch mix.
- On keto fried chicken in place of spices listed.
- In a pot roast for added flavor.
- Mixed into chili or taco soup.
- Sprinkled over potatoes before roasting.
- Mixed into my Low Carb Potato Salad made with cauliflower.
- Add to ground beef with taco seasoning mix for a different type of taco.
- Replace the cilantro dressing in this taco salad recipe with ranch.
How to Make Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix
All you have to do is measure and add these ingredients together and whisk or shake well to combine.
If making a large portion of the mix, you can store in an airtight container that has been labeled.
If you want a nice creamy and smooth dressing, the best method is to use a salad dressing shaker.
This method allows you to shake the dressing through a small whisk inside the jar that helps break up any bits of powder or clumps.
Pro Tip: Before I mix this as a salad dressing, I use my whisk to incorporate it into the mayonnaise first. Then, I will pour in the milk and whisk until smooth.
