Chocolate brownie cherry trifle bites with a fresh cherry sauce layered between dollops of whipped cream!
These Individual Brownie Trifles are simply scrumptious!
The flavors of chocolate with cherries are a wonderful combination. Well, anything with chocolate gets two thumbs up in my opinion but there is something special about these two together!
Did you hear that there may be a shortage of cherries to enjoy this year? Apparently, our erratic weather has messed with the cherry crops limiting the supply!
That’s just so wrong! Cherries are in the same category with watermelon, they both go hand and hand with the summer months! It’s just too sad to think that this summer could come and go without a bowl full of cherries to enjoy, so when I saw a large painted sign screaming CHERRIES on the side of the road, I had to stop at the produce stand!!
I picked up about 2 pounds, which set me back about $10, but they were super sweet and worth the price tag! Some were ruby red and others had more pink in them. We ate most of them as soon as I washed them!
Then I remembered that my friend gave me a cherry pitter, which happens to be the greatest invention ever!
Kind of fun to squish out the pits with a handy dandy tool. I got busy pitting each cherry, and then something amazing happened.
I made a simple delicious cherry sauce, homemade brownies, and then married the two! They were rich tasting, and the best bites had a little taste of cherry sauce, brownie, and whipped cream.
Next time I make these I think I’ll try serving them in the same shooters glasses that I made my Yogurt Berry Parfaits in just for fun.
I used the Ghirardelli Award Winning Brownie recipe from the back of the container of the Ghiradelli baking cocoa. I couldn’t find the exact recipe online, but did find their other brownie drool worthy recipes!
Individual Brownie Cherry Trifle
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 8-inch square baking pan and set aside.
- 2 1/2 cups cherries (pits and stems removed) and cut in half
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup butter, unsalted and melted
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup Ghirardelli Sweet Ground Chocolate & Cocoa
- 2/3 cup all purpose flour, unsifted
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
- Prepared Whipped Cream (adjust to taste)
You will have extra brownies leftover. Recipe is enough for 6 servings.
The two together are pretty much a piece of yummy heaven 🙂

I can’t wait for cherry season to come again so I can try this. I love the trifle idea. Cherries are in season at Christmas in Australia and I think that it will be lovely during the holidays.
Oh that would be a nice touch for the holidays! I hope Australia doesn’t experience the same crop issues we had and there are plenty of cherries to enjoy!

Oh yum Sandra, your dessert sounds great. Chocolate and cherries are such a good combination.
Quite rich together, but of so yummy! Thank you, Karen!

Hi Sandra, cherries are my favorite, love what you did here. Great site you have.
Thank you, Cheri! I appreciate the compliment 🙂
Oh my YUM! That looks like something I would eat up.
Everything tastes wonderful individually, but when put together, WOW! 🙂
I love your presentation of these trifles. They look stunning. I adore cherries but they’re not in season at the moment however, cherries from the USA have just started to appear in our shops so I’ll be able to recreate this xx
The season will be short, Charlie! So grab them when they arrive in your stores!
What a delicious idea! I love brownies, and cherries, and frifles… LOL! Perfect!
Yummy for your tummy! Gotta have some dessert fun with this 🙂
These look beautiful and delicious. I love cherries!
Thank you, Debra! We enjoyed this dessert! No crumb was left behind 🙂
Thanks, Joanne! I can’t get enough cherries. They’re so good!
Thanks, Stephen! The combination of chocolate and cherry IS heavenly!
Those are some of the best looking cherries I’ve seen!! I love the whole trifle, but the cherries just look yum!

This sounds amazing, I so need to get one of those seed removers!
The cherry pitter is super cool! I love mine 🙂
I would use brownie mix fast and I think taste great
Using premixed brownie mix is convenient, but I know you’ll love the taste of these Ghiradelli brownies!

There definitely is a cherry shortage this year. The warmer weather messed with the internal clocks of the cherry trees, causing them to bloom too soon. I have heard that for some local farmers, this will be their last weekend being able to offer cherries for sale, so sad 🙁
That is sad! Our summer barely started! Thanks for letting me know more about the cherry shortage!
Wow I would eat this every night for dessert if I could! It look delicious!
Super tempting, I know! Thanks, Felicia 🙂
Wow! So yummy and elegant. A nice dessert for that romantic dinner. Thanks
Oh, yes! This would be a nice dessert for date night!

Yes, cherries are here, so hurry and get yours!
Robin (Masshole Mommy)
Those sound SO good. My only problem is that I would need to eat at least 4 of them 😉
I know, pretty irresistible, especially when you smell the brownies cooking! It’s pretty amazing that the brownies got in trifle form before disappearing!

Love the cherry parfaits and your gorgeous photos! A shortage. Hmm. I wonder if I can get a cherry tree to grow in my backyard.
I think it’s worth a try to grow your own cherry tree, and I hope I’m not spreading rumors because I seem to be the only one that knows about this cherry shortage! haha!!
Yes, get going on that cherry tree 🙂 We don’t ever want to deal with a shortage of cherries 🙂
Oh wow. This is just fantastic!
Perfect dessert with all the sweet cherries I’ve seen at the market! Totally irresistible!
I keep picking up a few more every time I see cherries! They’re so good!
