What a complete treat to come home to a box of groceries delivered straight to my door from Handpick Smart Groceries!

Everything I needed for three full size meals were neatly packed in a insulated box with ice packs to keep the food cold and fresh.

Are you familiar with meal kits like Blue Apron and HelloFresh? Handpick Smart Groceries is similar except you don’t have to commit to a subscription, the meals start at $6 a meal instead of $10, and one big advantage is that the groceries are just as the name suggests, hand picked and delivered from a grocery store NOT a warehouse!

I inspected the apples and tomatoes that came in my kit and they were perfect! Not one soft spot. I was glad to see that my shopper was just as picky as I am when I purchase groceries.

There are several meal kit themes you can choose from; Asian, Meat Lover, Vegetarian, Gluten-free, and Seafood. I picked the Meat Lover bundle because this is service that I would be interested in sending to my college age son, and he would definitely like the protein that comes in the meat bundle!

I’m certain that Sam’s college food money doesn’t actually go towards healthy groceries and more of his funds are spent on beverages with hops! Haha! He does like to make chicken dishes, but he says he never has any spices to make it flavorful. This meal kit came with the main spices needed for each recipe, and step by step instructions detailed on a 8 “x 11” colorful paper stock explaining how to make the recipe.

The amount of food provided for the Meat Lover bundle was perfectly measured so that everything was cooked, For instance, my kit came with two pounds of red potatoes. One pound was for the roasted potatoes that went with the Beef Saltado and the other made garlic mashed potatoes that went with the chicken with tomatoes recipe in the kit. Every single morsel was eaten!

I found the recipe easy to make and very flavorful! The simple flavors in the Beef Saltado were so tasty when everything was combined! Using fresh tomatoes instead of canned tomatoes really punched up the freshness of this dish as well.

College students would definitely get use out of this service, and moms would have some comfort knowing that their kids are learning to cook healthy and fresh meals! In fact, any busy household would enjoy the perks of having meals planed, shopped for and delivered to their front door! I know that I sure enjoyed the service!

  1. I have heard of this delightful service and sure wish it was available here in HK with good old Americana meats and produce. Your dish looks so delicious and a fun way to stop worrying about whats for dinner. Pinning my friend!

  2. I actually provide a service like this to my neighbor! haha So is it $6 per person per meal? I agree, this would be a great service for college students. My son would actually love this! (Providing his roommates wouldn’t take the box in and cook it themselves! haha)
