Oven Baked Ribs
Will you be in charge of cooking for Father’s Day? Father’s Day is traditionally a day for being outdoors and grilling foods.
The grilling tasks are usually handled by Alan. Grilling is Alan’s domain with a couple of caveats. First, good music in the background, and second, a beer nearby.
Grilling is definitely not my strength, and I’m OK with that!
There are times Alan just isn’t available or I want him to chill and let me do all the cooking, which is why this oven baked recipe is perfect for enjoying ribs without firing up a grill.
The baked method is easy with fantastic results.
Should The Silver Skin or Membrane Be Removed From Ribs?
The layer of silver skin covers the underside of the ribs. This is the white/silver colored membrane made of cognitive tissues.
Although the membrane looks thin, it actually is tough and chewy to eat when cooked.
In addition, the membrane prevents flavor from penetrating into the meat if it is left intact.
For cooking ribs, it is recommended to remove the silver skin.
Learn how to remove silver skin from ribs by following those simple steps.
Steps To Make Baked Ribs
- First, as mentioned above, remove the silver skin.
- Second, blot the meat with paper towels and then apply a thin layer of neutral tasting oil like olive or avocado oil.
- Generously coat both sides of the meat with dry rub. I used Grill Mates Rub by McCormick. For a homemade dry rub, try this basic pork seasoning dry rub recipe.
- Place ribs on a layer of foil (meaty side up) and tightly seal the rack of ribs with foil. Place on a baking sheet.
- Cook for one hour.
- Remove from oven and open the foiled ribs and brush on the BBQ sauce on both sides of the ribs.
- Return to the oven with the foil open and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
Serve up with additional bbq sauce for some finger licking good ribs!
Pork Cooking Temperature For Ribs
Since ribs have a lot of bone attached to them it is difficult to get an internal temperature using a probe, like you see in this baked pork tenderloin recipe.
According to the National Pork Board, the pork temperature for ribs should be cooked until tender.
How to tell if the meat is tender? The fork or knife should be able to easily break into the meat without sawing or pulling the meat away. The times for cooking in this recipe will give you tender ribs.

We love our barbecued ribs and we’ve tried just about every sauce that there is on them. And enjoyed them all. What we haven’t tried is blueberry sauce. That sounds so mouth watering good. Blueberry season is almost here and I know this recipe is one that our family will truly enjoy. And since they ribs are oven baked, I don’t have to worry about rain ruining our feast.
You certainly can make this any time of year! Perfect if you don’t want to be in front of a grill.
Great tips for oven-baking ribs! I totally agree that the silver skin needs to me removed so that everything is nice and tender. I can’t wait to check out your recipe for blueberry bourbon bbq sauce too!

Yup…blueberries are the perfect match for these ribs. My grandson LOVES ribs, and always asks for them when we have sleepovers. These are perfect…especially when we can’t make them on the grill.
Your ribs look amazing, Sandra and I’m loving the sound of the blueberry bourbon sauce! So yummy!
The sauce is so tasty, Charlie! I had another rack of ribs that I cooked up without the sauce and it wasn’t as good as these. Won’t make that mistake again!
Ok, I totally want to lick my computer screen but that would not be very lady like… Great idea to try in the oven as this weather is so unpredictable sun shine one moment and then a bad storm the next. Sharing and pinning, of course!
