Cheddar Jalapeño Beer Bread - The Foodie Affair

Do you ever get a craving or see a recipe and must make it immediately? That’s exactly what happened when I saw a loaf of savory beer bread on Facebook over at Lemony Thyme’s page.

I improvised with the ingredients I had on hand and made this Extra Sharp Cheddar Jalapeño Beer Bread!

Ever since I made this Guinness Beer Bread I have a new appreciation for the science behind cooking! How can it be that there is enough yeast in the beer to make a gorgeous loaf of bread? Yet, when I try to poof my own yeast, it often flops? <sigh>

Maybe my yeast is old or my house is too cold or is it possible that I just need to practice more often with yeast breads?

I always feel a sense of accomplishment when I bake quick bread, the most basic fool proof way to tinker with breads. It comes out perfect every time, so that’s why I was so excited to try this recipe, plus it has jalapeños in it and my husband and son love spicy foods!

The cheese and jalapeños are so tasty together. In fact, I think I could’ve added more peppers! I’m usually the one that holds back on the heat, so I think my taste buds are getting used to more spice! I didn’t pay attention to the type of beer that I added. I just grabbed what was in the refrigerator. I do remember that is  was pale yellow, not dark like Guinness.

Eat this fresh out of the oven with some butter or pair it with a delicious bowl of chili. I have a Super Good Beer Chili  that you might want to try if you want to keep the hops theme going!

The bread also makes a tasty grilled cheese and baby bella mushroom sandwich. I sautéd the sliced mushroom in a little olive oil before grilling the sandwich. You can also add some crispy bacon and mustard like my husband and son did!

  1. Never heard of this bread before nor the combination of cheddar and jalapeno. It does looks good though and wishing I could try one right now.

  2. Bookmarking! 🙂 Wow, you got me on those beers and not for me, for dear hubby who will probably appreciate a little comfort food with beer in it. 🙂 I’d skip with the japaleno or maybe put little because I have trouble with spicy food. However, I feel my friends who love spicy food will definitely try this yummy looking bread.

PS. I saved the recipe 😉 Thanks a mucho!!

  3. Yes, I do love beer bread 🙂 I make a sweet/hot pepper one that we love. I am sure I would love the jalapeno and I love your sandwich with the bread!

  4. I love this recipe, love the cheddar and the simplicity of the recipe too. I’ve made a spicy cheddar quick bread which was so easy and it’s great to have with soups and stew. Pinned and shared.

  5. Me being an Alcoholic and in sobriety for almost 16 years, my only concern would be the alcohol content. I really want to cook this for my non AA friends and maybe a few of my program friends if there is another way to cook without alcohol. Does the alcohol burn away? Thank you for all your post. BTW. I had lost 20 lbs on my diet since I told you about it. Have a great day.

    1. Vaughn, Congratulations on your weight loss!! That’s fantastic and such a great accomplishment. I’m certainly not an expert when it comes to how much alcohol evaporates while cooking and I would hate for ANY amount to be an issue for you or your friends. I’m just not certain. You could experiment with non-alcoholic beer. I’m not sure if it has yeast in it so that it cooks properly.

  6. Looks so hearty and yummy. I like that it is not expensive to make, but looks like you bought an expensive loaf of bread from the bakery. So love this!

  7. Love those nooks and crannies on the top of your bread. This bread has so much character and I am sure my boys would love it with the jalapenos inside. Sharing the recipe…Take Care, BAM
